Janet G. Travell, M.D.

(1901 - 1997)

The Lifetime Collection of Medical and Personal Papers of Janet G.Travell, M.D. opened in June for research and study in the Melvin Gelman Library at the George Washington University, University Archives, 2130 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20052, under the direction of G. David Anderson, C.A.

The Collection consists of 104 Boxes, 44.5 linear feet of materials, dating from 1922 to 1997 and beyond (bulk, 1945 - 1985). It includes manuscripts, reports, research data, correspondence, articles, newspaper clippings, photographs, a few artifacts, and a variety of items from Dr. Travell's service as White House Physician under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson between the years 1961 and 1965.

The Janet Travell Collection will be of great value to scholars interested in researching the development of treatments for myofascialpain over the past sixty years, as well as those interested in women's and U.S. political history.

This collection of documents was made by Dr. Travell's two daughters, Janet and Virginia, in 1998.
