Dieter E. Pongratz, MD, is the leader of the
Friedrich-Baur-Institute at the University of Munich, Germany, with
special interests in neuromuscular disorders, including painful
myopathies, myofascial syndromes and fibromyalgia.
Dr. Pongratz
is Professor of Neurology and Internal Medicine at the University of
Munich. Since 1980, he has been the Leader of the
Friedrich-Baur-Institute at the University of Munich, Klinikum
Innenstadt in Munich, Germany. He is an educator, clinical
investigator, and physician caring for patients with neuromuscular
diseases. His training was at the Univeristy of Munich where he became
a specialist in internal medicine in 1975 and neurology specialist in
1979. His research interests have focused on the clinical aspects and
myopathological findings in patients with neuromusuclar diseases. This
work has resulted in the publication of about 300 original papers on
neuromuscular disorders. He has edited five books covering topics like
clinical neurology, muscle disease, and differential diagnosis in
internal medicine. He is a member of the following professional
societies: Deutsche Gessellschaft fur Neurologie, Deutsche Gesellschaft
fur Neuropathologie, Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Innere Medizin, Deutsche
Gesellschaft fur Rheumatologie, and the European Neurological Society.
Besides his responsibility as Leader of the Neuromuscular Center of
Munich, he is the Vice President of the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur
Muskelkranke e.V, and Chairman of the Board of the International
MYOPAIN Society. He was the Program Chairman and Host for the Sixth
International MYOPAIN Meeting which was held in Munich, Germany in the
year 2004.
