Bente Danneskiold-Samsoe, MD, PhD

Dr. Danneskiold-Samsoe is Head, and endowed Parker Institute Professor in the Department of Rheumatology in Copenhagen's Frederiksberg Hospital. In 1966, while a physiotherapist, she began medical studies at University of Copenhagen where she was awarded the MD degree in 1973. By 1983, she began work as a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and in rheumatology and internal medicine. In 1987 she was awarded the doctorate degree from the University of Copenhagen. From 1984-1987, Dr. Danneskiold-Samsoe worked as a consultant at The Rehabilitation Centre for Torture Victims. She developed a unique muscle laboratory and supervises numerous medical students and physicians.  She teaches at The Physiotherapy School and at The University of Copenhagen.  She has lectured and presented papers at Nordic and International congresses. In 1992 she was the President of the World Congress on Myofascial Pain and Fibromyalgia, MYOPAIN and now serves as a board member of International MYOPAIN Society. Dr. Danneskiold-Samsoe was awarded The MEFA prize from the Danish Medical Association and 'Prize of Honour' from Minister Erna Hamilton's Foundation for Art and Science. She has many publications, including book chapters and scientific reports regarding research in rheumatology, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation medicine. She was involved in the establishment of a Medical Women's Research Group in Denmark.
