I. Jon Russell, MD, PhD

Dr. Russell is Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of The University Clinical Research Center at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is an educator, medical researcher, and physician caring for patients with rheumatic diseases and soft tissue pain. His biochemistry graduate training was at The University of Nebraska, medical degree at Loma Linda University, internal medicine and rheumatology training at The Mayo Clinic. He is editor of the Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain and serves on other journal editorial boards. His research has involved: glycoprotein synthesis, medical education, gout, rheumatic diseases, and the fibromyalgia syndrome. His laboratory led toward the current nociceptive, neurochemical pain model for the fibromyalgia syndrome. He has over 85 scientific and review publications. He is co-author of The Fibromyalgia Help Book and producer of the "Fibromyalgia and You" educational video. He has supervised rheumatology and pain research fellows. He has lectured to audiences world wide. He is a member of the IASP, and a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology [service: regional officer, program chairman for the Non-Articular Rheumatism group]. Selected awards: society memberships, Arthritis Foundation "Humanitarian of the Year Award," listed in "The Best 2000 Doctors in America." He was the Founding President of The International MYOPAIN Society and serves on of its Board of Directors.
