James R. Fricton, DDS, MS
Dr. Fricton is a Professor in the Departments of Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences in the School of Dentistry and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in The University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He has over 20 years of experience in clinical care, research, and teaching. His DDS is from the University of Iowa followed by postgraduate training in chronic pain management and MS in Oral Biology from UCLA. He developed and directed an interdisciplinary clinic for patients with craniofacial pain disorders and directs a graduate program in temporomandibular disorders [TMD] and orofacial pain. His research has focused on chronic head and neck pain, TMD, myofascial pain, and fibromyalgia. He has had many NIH grants, plus corporate, and federal research funding. He organized the First International Meeting of Myofascial Pain and Fibromyalgia in 1989, and the 1993 Scientific Congress on Orofacial Pain and TMD. He has three books and many scientific publications. He has lectured throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain and the International Journal of Craniofacial Anatomists. He serves on governing boards of the American Pain Society, the American Board of Orofacial Pain, the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, and International MYOPAIN Society. He is past President of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain.
