About IMS - The International Myopain Society

MISSION: IMS brings together an international community of health care professionals, researchers, educators, and others to improve care and transform delivery of treatment to those suffering from soft tissue pain through the promotion and exchange of globally recognized research, education, and innovation in patient care.

The International MYOPAIN Society [IMS] is a nonprofit, international, interdisciplinary medical organization for research scientists, physicians, other health care professionals, individuals in training toward a health-related career, institutions, foundations, and commercial companies interested in exchanging ideas, conducting research, or learning more about soft tissue pain syndromes like myofascial pain syndrome and fibromyalgia syndrome.

The IMS is a membership organization in service to the medical community and supporting International MYOPAIN meetings.

The IMS's centralized administration provides stability for the outstanding international MYOPAIN meetings and facilitates development of many regional symposia on myofascial pain syndrome and fibromyalgia syndrome. Society members will receive a subscription to the Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain. The international Journal is a high-quality, quarterly scientific publication which was independently successful for over five years before becoming the official publication of the IMS. It is devoted to the topic of soft tissue pain, is referenced by Science Citation Index and more than 30 other indexing services. It is a source for reports of original research, scientific reviews, literature columns, research ideas, and professional interaction. The IMS has a membership directory, website, focus committee on myofascial pain syndrome diagnostic criteria, and training funds which will allow promising young people to spend one to four months at established centers to learn from recognized masters.

The IMS promotes research on soft tissue pain by thoughtful prioritization of needs, by integration of available information into consensus opinion, by establishing working groups on important topics, and by providing funding which can be distributed on a competitive basis to answer critical research questions.

The IMS facilitates social interactions between a variety of clinical and basic science disciplines through the Journal, website, international membership directory, and through coordinated work toward meeting mutual needs.
