MYOPAIN, a journal of myofascial pain and fibromyalgia is the official journal of International Myopain Societyas a new name and new look! After more than 20+ years the IMS Board of Directors felt it was time to update its publication to make it more scientifically relevant to today’s research community. The new name, MYOPAIN, A Journal of Myofascial Pain AND Fibromyalgia, more correctly identifies specific areas of science represented by the IMS, its members and researchers. In 1993, when the JMP was created, there were just over 400 published fibromyalgia research articles; today there are more than 6,000. With these changes in fibromyalgia scientific comprehension has come alterations in the scope of research pertinent to both fibromyalgia and myofascial pain. The name change is meant to address the scientific scope of the journal (myofascial pain and fibromyalgia) in order to garner more relevant article submissions.

Along with the journal’s new name and look comes an added benefit: for an additional $25 IMS dues payment, members will also receive a printed version of MYOPAIN. Regular membership will remain at $150, which includes digital access to the journal but now you can become a Membership Plus member for $175 and also receive the printed version of the journal. We encourage all of you to take advantage of this great offer!

Following is a report from Mike Sorrell, MD, IMS Board of Directors member and MYOPAIN editor-in-chief:

After 1 year, we published the official journal of the International MYOPAIN Society. This was a team effort of 1 associate editor (Scott Mist) 6 section editors (with 1 resignation), and the help of a new editorial board. There was a backlog of over 150 papers which had to be culled or reviewed. We changed the name of the journal from the Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain to MYOPAIN, a journal of myofascial pain and fibromyalgia, to attract papers only in the fields of interest of the IMS.

The first issue of MYOPAIN, using the JMP numeration, was e-published by Taylor and Francis in early July 2016 with the print copies sent out shortly thereafter. It contains 4 editorials, 2 of which are scholarly, 5 research papers, 1 Review, 1 Case Report, 1 research Idea, and 1 Letter to the editor. There were T & F staff changes throughout the process. We went through 2 managing editors, 3 assistant editors, and 2 production editors.

MYOPAIN is a quarterly publication which needs your scholarly input. We are expanding our editorial staff to cover all aspects of myofascial pain with experts in separate fields within the IMS purview. Its long term goal is to be the best forum for discussion of muscular pain. We are constructing it with the goal to improve its chances of acceptance to the PubMed list.
